Minutes of the Meeting

1.Went over finance processes and procedures with committee 2.Verified applicant information and voted on funding applications for students attending conferences. Committee voted unanimously to approve all applicants for their requested funding (not to exceed $300). The total amount requested and approved for conferences in the first period was $11,639. 3.Verified applicant information and voted on funding applications for graduate student groups. Committee voted unanimously to approve all applicants for their requested funding (not to exceed $3000). The total amount requested and approved for the first period was $5,325 for groups. 4.The total awards for this period represent less than a quarter of the total funding budget. 5.The Committee requested more detailed information of funding from past years. The VP explained that this qill require going through old files still in boxes from the move-but this will be next priority. Volunteers from the committee are welcome to assist with going through the archives. 6.Another great idea offered at the meeting today was to amend the application policy to ensure that any changes are made prior to the finance committee, so that there are no last minute adjustments to the funding totals. VP will check with GPSA advisor on how we can best go about this. Preferably, the procedural change would be in place before next Finance Committee Meeting. 7.The possibility of increasing the cap on funding for conferences was suggested at both the Senate and Finance Committee meetings today. This will require careful consideration of the budget. VP proposed that we revisit this issue at our November 29 meeting where we will be assessing the budget. 8.Cole Creighton volunteered to be secretary going forward.
